“Hey, I found you the absolute perfect candidate for your current role.”
“How are you going with your current open positions?”
“Look, I found this candidate not completely matching to the advert, but I just love them so much that I had to ring you!”
I think anyone who works in recruiting in the HR sector can relate to receiving calls or messages like these on their personal phone number from recruiting agencies. Throughout the recruitment cycle, you must often deal with applicants, recruitment agencies, and assessment agencies who want immediate answers from you. This often leads to them calling you directly, rather than using email or other channels.
Since our company is growing rapidly, we are working with more recruitment agencies. This means I was getting more calls to my personal number without knowing whether they were recruitment-related or personal. To combat this, I decided to create a new Sudo profile named “Recruitment” in my existing MySudo account. Creating a Sudo is very quick and easy.
With my newly created “Recruitment Sudo”, I added a phone number and dedicated its use solely to the recruitment agencies working with us. Now, every time I receive a phone call or a text message on that Sudo, I know it is recruitment-related and prioritize it accordingly.
As a HR Manager my duties cover multiple aspects of HR so having a specialized “Recruitment Sudo” exclusively for recruiting new people helps me stay organized and compartmentalize that aspect of my role.
Another benefit of my new Recruitment Sudo is it makes it easier to communicate with applicants. I now use this dedicated Sudo to make all my calls and text messages about scheduling interviews, making employment offers, and asking for more information. This ensures that no candidate ever receives my personal details, which helps me to stay more private – which is important because I like to keep my work life separate from my personal life.
Compartmentalizing the recruitment aspect of my job helps me to stay focused within my role, and be more organized. MySudo helps me to feel safer interacting with others, because I no longer have to give out my personal details to anyone I don’t know.
To stay even more private, I have decided to recycle my phone number for my “Recruitment Sudo” every year. Despite having to contact every recruiter I’m still working with to share my new number each year, the privacy benefit is worth the effort, and it allows me to focus on the important aspects of my professional and personal lives.
