Why Dr Paul Ashley is in Demand on the Decentralized Identity Speaking Circuit

In September, Anonyome Labs’ co-CEO Dr Paul Ashley was once again invited to share his insights on the “topic of the era in the privacy and identity space”—decentralized identity—this time, for the Ethereum Engineering Group meet-up.

Ethereum is the community-run technology powering the cryptocurrency ether (ETH) and thousands of decentralized applications. The engineering group regularly meets to discuss applications, engineering, and research, and records each meet-up for its thousands of subscribers.

For Ethereum, Dr. Ashley delivered his landmark talk on progress and pitfalls on the path to decentralized identity. It’s this talk that has event organizers regularly inviting Dr. Ashley to speak on the topic of decentralized identity—known as the third wave of identity and access management on the internet. That, and the fact Anonyome Labs is at the leading edge of implementing DI technology through its API business solution. (See our identity wallet and our reusable credentials service.)

Dr. Ashley told the Ethereum group that with the continued rise of the surveillance economy, the world needs solutions that improve privacy for the general public—and we’re seeing those solutions come from decentralized identity.

Decentralized identity is the most important privacy technology innovation for the next decade because it gives users control of their personal data.

The anchor of trust for decentralized identity-based applications is the blockchain/ledger and as such decentralized identity is one of the most important use cases for blockchain/ledger technology. (See Dr. Ashley’s presentation on that topic.)

Dr. Ashley outlined to the Ethereum Engineering Group and its audience the key components of decentralized identity, and current progress and challenges in the urgent quest to bring DI solutions to market. He also described some important projects where DI provides the foundational technology for the solution.
